The Easter Bunny Does Roses Too?!?!

Mike got me some lovely flowers for Easter . . . and you may see them in the next day or so, but these "tie-dyed" roses were so weird that he knew they'd make a good photo project so he brought them home too.

I love how he loves me.

Reflecting on Life Changes -- and They're All My Kids Now

Exactly ten years and ten days ago we packed up all five of our boys, two cats, and a bazillion uncertainties and moved to Houston and into a rental house that I had never even seen.

We had no idea what kind of life was in store for us here, but we hoped for the best.

Our kids are about grown now and hardly need us anymore. We've had good times and not so good times . . . but I never would have dreamed that in ten VERY SHORT YEARS I'd spend Friday nights watching and photographing other people's kids playing high school sports. How cool is THAT??!?!?!

As far as I'm concerned, they're all my kids. Thought I'd share these two with you today. I just LOVE the intensity in their eyes and faces.

Wonder where they'll be in another ten years and ten days. I hope they follow their dreams into very big things.

An afternoon of senior pictures, and oh my goodness did we have fun. It was WAY too hard to choose one image for the day, but this is a fun shot for starters. More to come soon,

World Famous Burgers

Our old hometown used to have a red and white cinder-block hamburger dive called Bob's Better Burger. It was all the way on the other side of town . . . probably a good 10-15 minutes drive. That seems so funny now, when it takes nearly10 minutes just to get out of our subdivision. Still, a trip to Bob's was a very special treat. And, Ohhhh . . . those were some good burgers.

Places like that -- and like this-- are few and far between now. We had to pull over so that I could grab a shot of this sign. 2-M's is still open and appears to be doing pretty brisk business, but you just can't count on these places and their wonderful old signs to be around the next time we pass by. This is a piece of Americana I wish we could bring back.

Congratulations to Annalies and James.

Just a quick first peek at Saturday's festivities. I think I'll need to elminate the sidewalk before this series is finished, but couldn't wait to put something up.

Had to pop in to the school this morning wearing my volunteer hat to get a couple of pictures. I just love these blue benches, and they're rarely empty during the school year so I couldn't resist grabbing an image or two.

Summer Band started today. These kids march from 8:00 to noon then they have sectionals from 1:30 to 3:30 and return to march again from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. Doesn't matter that temp is usually in the upper 90's with high humidity -- and they're marching on an asphalt parking lot.

Cross country has been running most of the summer -- multiple miles in HHHH (high heat and humidity) and these are only the activities I have direct and current involvement with. I have no clue what the other teams are doing, but can bet that they are not at home sitting on the couch.

There is SO MUCH already going on behind the scenes for our awesome active and involved students, and school doesn't even start this year until August 25.

Whatever anyone else says, I truly believe that our future is in very capable and well-disciplined hands.

"Go confidently in the direction of your dreams! Live the life you've imagined. As you simplify your life, the laws of the universe will be simpler." -- Henry David Thoreau

Sounds good in theory, doesn't it? I keep telling myself this, but for some reason the simplification just doesn't happen. Everything gets more intricate and complex, frustrating, and fascinating at the same time.

The more I learn and accomplish, the more I realize that there IS for me to learn and accomplish.

Art? Really?

Thank goodness the signage crew was working to ensure that we would recognize the works of New York's more obscure artists. I'm afraid I would have missed this masterpiece altogether.
