Backyard Plumeria

I will praise You for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful. I know that full well. Psalm 139:14

Slide

As with every other sport I've photographed, the first time out is usually a bit of a bust with oodles of lessons learned for next time, and a few decent images. I had some time to kill this weekend before my equine portrait session, so decided to see what I could do with the events that were going on in the arena. I could watch these riders all day long . . . They are amazing and their animals are absolute works of art.

 C'mon in. The Water's Fine.

Maybe today will be a productive day. After all, I had my POD by 3:00 am.

The dog woke us up in the night and we let her out where she proceeded to chase this guy into the pool. It's proven to be a great method of armadillo catching for us in the past too.

If it hadn't been 3:00, we would have put him into a crate for relocation, but instead we let him go. When we got him out he shook off like a cat, wandered in circles a bit, bumped into the patio table (they have very poor eyesight) and finally ran off.

He'll be back to dig up my flower beds tonight, I'm sure.

For those of you who have only seen these guys dead and upside down on the side of the road here's proof that living armadillos really do exist. Surprisingly they are very good swimmers too.

Remember the straws from a couple of weeks ago? Where in the world can you get so much color for less than $2?

I don't usually do enough with slow shutter speeds, so decided to play with the straws. They're very patient and forgiving. For this image I set my aperture at 32 to get an 8 second exposure and then rolled the bundle of straws over two times while the shutter was open. It was actually fun.

There has to be something pithy to say about a bucket full of well-used baseballs, but I don't know what it would be. Maybe it's just late and my brain is turned off. Still, I love this shot for a computer wallpaper or background art.

Grasping at Straws

Oh my I love what I do. A $1.98 bag of colored straws -- legitimate business expense -- and time to work in my west studio. La Ti Da!

That's right . . . I have two studios. The main studio is my son's old bedroom which is truly if slowly being converted to a functional studio. The west studio receieves the most wonderful natural south and west light, and it even doubles as a kitchen. Talk about multi-functional!

Mike and I have developed a very fun tradition over the years. We go to the store together during the month before Valentines and we read the cards to each other. That way we get to share all the silly, mushy, and trashy sentiments without buying all the cards.

It's always fun. You should try it. Then, on the way out we bought a bag of pink, red, and white M&M's.

My blonde friend got a job at the M&M factory, and she was so excited because she was going to be a proofreader. She got fired after one week though, because she kept throwing out all the W's.

Have a nice day and tell someone else a favorite silly joke.
