Down on the Court -- Please Rise for our National Anthem.

For this I adjusted the tones and yanked them around a bit in curves and then added a watercolor filter from photoshop. Nothing as lovely as some of the WC effects that others in this community have perfected, but it's still an interesting touch.

Two Special Visitors --

In our back yard for a cookout last night.

These two were buddies all evening as the little butterfly dried out its fresh wet wings.

Lollipop Power!

Maybe this is why my little walker decided to take off in yesterday's photo. Mommy and Daddy give him healthy food. The photographer brought candy. I've probably ruined him for life with his very first sugar buzz, but we'll do anything for a good shot.

Here are the rest of the images from his session. This little guy is so adorable that it would be hard to go wrong.

Foggy New York Night Sky

Two versions today of the same photo. This one is color corrected using curves. In the original version, the lights gave the image a golden tone and a warmer feel.

I can't decide which one I like best. Perhaps it will just depend upon my intended application. What's your thought? What feelings do the different tones convey to you?

Here's the link to the original.

Quality Time

Sometimes I just enjoy a little bit of hammock time near the end of the day. I've discovered that if I sit sideways rather than lying down I can hold up a magazine or even enjoy a drink without spilling it all over myself. Now Lucy has evidently discovered the pleasure of hammock time too.

Mike took this picture for me. Every ONCE IN A WHILE it's kind of fun to be in front of the lens rather than behind the view finder.

Mawmaw

More Thanksgiving Blessings Revealed

This is my grandmother, Hannah! She is nearly 93 years old, lives on her own, and is by far the most popular person at dominoes and at the Wal-Mart Coffee Clatch. She's even the organizer of a new "walking group" in her hometown. Why? Probably because of the philosophy that has defined her life as long as I can remember. "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all." And she has PLENTY to say!

Bet you thought that was Thumper's line . Thumper learned it from Mawmaw when she fed him specially prepared salads on her back porch.

I'm Just a My-Cereal Girl!

Thanks to my goofy hubster for the great headline. I was photographing my Sunday breakfast when he came into the room and started singing and dancing. I couldn't top that if I tried -- but why would I want to?

HOT ENOUGH . . .

We've been breaking 100 and setting heat records for the last five days. I think we've topped 95 every day since the first week of June too. Definitely smart to curtail the outdoor activities for the most part.

I tried frying an egg on the sidewalk when I was a kid, and got fussed at for making a mess and wasting the egg. Now I'm the grownup and I'm paying for the groceries.

After about 30-45 minutes the egg did start firming up a bit, but it certainly wasn't anything I would have served to company. Probably should have sprayed the concrete with Pam before I started.

No worries about the mess. Lucy was happy to handle cleanup.

You Never Know Who is Watching

It is officially springtime around here. Yesterday afternoon I saw a cardinal fly out of one of our vines and thought it would be so neat to find a nest and watch for babies. We've enjoyed several generations in the past few years but never have seen them until they ventured down to the feeder.

Very carefully I poked my head into the bushes and started looking, trying not to disturb anything I might find. As I leaned back to move to another area, this is what I saw. Not one, but three ribbon snakes, and they were about 18 inches above where my head had been. (I still can't believe that I didn't jump and scream. What WAS I thinking?)

They even had the good manners to sit and wait for me to get the camera, switch to the macro lens, and come back outside. I took about a dozen photos with different settings before they decided they'd had enough and slipped away. I'm sure I'll see them again but probably not all at one time like this.

If there was a bird nest in this area, I'm afraid the outlook for babies is not so good. Maybe the bird was just resting and will find a better place to raise a family. I certainly hope so.
