Shelly > January 17,2009 Mike and I have developed a very fun tradition over the years. We go to the store together during the month before Valentines and we read the cards to each other. That way we get to share all the silly,mushy, and trashy sentiments without buying all the cards. It's always fun. You should try it. Then, on the way out we bought a bag of pink, red, and white M&M's. My blonde friend got a job at the M&M factory, and she was so excited because she was going to be a proofreader. She got fired after one week though, because she kept throwing out all the W's. Have a nice day and tell someone else a favorite silly joke.
Shelly > February 28,2008 A Sweet Ride About this time every year, traffic in Houston comes to a standstill. It's the one time that road rage is not an issue. Urban sprawl meets the Wild West as several world reknown trail rides converge upon the city to kick off the annual Stock Show and Rodeo. You never think about the trail rides. You just happen upon them. This morning on the way in to the office, traffic came to a crawl. I quickly realized that it was the Valley Lodge Trail Ride group on its way to the Rodeo -- and not some major traffic mishap. If I was late for my meeting, everyone would understand coming upon the riders. Once I passed the group, I thought about stopping to watch them go by and trying to take a few photos. Good sense, however, told me that afterward I'd be behind them again and I would be very late. People would NOT understand that. I drove on. Later as I headed back out to the "burbs" I thought about trying to find the riders again, but alas . . . I was in that old guilt-ridden hurry that I'm always in, so I took the Interstate. Lo and behold, at the corner turning from the freeway to our subdivision, there was the whole trail ride group taking their lunch break. They weave a rather circuitous route to minimize traffic disruption and to hit parks for overnight camping. This time I stopped. I think I was the only person on the lot that wasn't either a part of the ride, a Sheriff's Constable, or a mom with toddlers. I'm glad I stopped anyway. Rubbed lots of fuzzy noses, and didn't even sneeze. (This is BIG!) We were too far out to get a good skyline juxtaposition with the riders, but couldn't resist the nose and the Mercedes hood ornament. Either one is a very sweet ride. Only in Houston! I sure do love it here. Especially on beautiful blue-sky 70 degree February days when any excuse to play outside is a good excuse.
Shelly > February 27, 2008 Girls Night Out -- Shimmy & Shake for a Healthy Heart A very creative and enegetic hospital marketing director invited women to come into the hospital after work yesterday to learn about heart health. How did she get them there? Girls Night Out! Wine and hors d'oeuvres, a very engaging female cardiologist speaker -- AND a belly-dancing demonstration followed by a lesson. She had quite a crowd of good sports. Women of all ages laughed, wiggled, and giggled together, and we all learned SOMETHING new! Belly dancing never appealed to me before this event, but I have to admit, I am intrigued. MMMM. . . supposed it's time to get the cholesterol checked too.

Shelly > February 16, 2008 Another Tulip Thank you to everyone for the positive comments on yesteday's tulips. I couldn't resist posting one more today. Yesterday's was straight out of the camera with no editing or cropping at all. I was rather pleased. I played with it a little bit, but kept going back to the original. On this one, I adjusted the tones just a bit to get the deep rich colors rather than the soft dreamy effect that yesterday's image had. And to answer a couple of the questions, yes it was taken with my Canon Macro 100 2.8 lens. I don't know why the camera info didn't show, but sometime I have issues with not getting all of the icons to pop up when I'm looking for info on people's photos as well. And yes, Hillary. I am back into the 40D saddle. The one that is out for repairs is not back yet, but I went ahead and gutted up to replace the DReb. I've needed to do that anyway, so now at least I will have a quick and reliable backup and can soon shoot two different lenses without having to stop and remount in the field. Shot these in my studio with straight window light. No flash. The black background is a pillowcase.
