(Just little stains instead) Note to my mother -- could this possibly be from the elusive "lost" bulb that you gave me two or three years ago? The individual blossoms are about 1 1/2 inches, but they're on stalks with at quite a few of the smaller stems like this one. Quite a striking display, and they're doing so well that they could even be thinned and shared after they finish blooming.

Shelly > August 9, 2007 ESCAPE! Get me out of here! The zig zaggy fire escapes on old buildings have always fascinated me, even when I was little. Still, I've never actually been on one. Maybe I should add that to my list of things I need to do before I die. Climb up and and down a fire escape -- CHECK! Come to think of it, I can't remember ever seeing anyone on one. I don't know if it would be exhilirating and fun or downright scary. The ride to jail and paying the ticket is more adventure than I'm usually up for anyway. We don't see too many of these around here any more, but I think if I were caught in a tall building fire I'd prefer to come down one than to use a dark interior stairwell. At least the firemen could see me and get to me. Otherwise, it's likely that no one would come looking for me until I didn't show up somewhere. By then it would be too late. In any case, this one was especially interesting because it actually looked new compared to the building and broken windows. No . . . I didn't climb it. They never run the stairs all the way to the ground!
