All's Quiet on the Home Front

The Fourth of July is a high-stress night for our canine friends. There's a burn ban in effect, so no roman candles, mortars or bottle-rockets this time. Still, it took us until at least 10:00 am to convince Lucy that there should be no more scary sounds for a while.

Once she spotted and chased a few doves and squirrels in the backyard, though, everything was normal again.

Quality Time

Sometimes I just enjoy a little bit of hammock time near the end of the day. I've discovered that if I sit sideways rather than lying down I can hold up a magazine or even enjoy a drink without spilling it all over myself. Now Lucy has evidently discovered the pleasure of hammock time too.

Mike took this picture for me. Every ONCE IN A WHILE it's kind of fun to be in front of the lens rather than behind the view finder.

Puppy Kindergarten

On a technical note this may not be a very good picture, but we laughed so hard that I just had to share it. Addie has always given us "welcome home" gifts when we get home. She actually brings me my slippers -- one at a time. . I don't want to buy a new pair because I'm afraid she won't recognize them. Sometimes she brings us her chew-bones -- after all, they are a treasure to her.

Anyway, it was nearly dark when Mike came home last night. -- and this is how Addie and Lucy greeted him. They pranced around the yard like this for quite a while.

Them's some BIG little dawgs!

I know which breeds are fearsome, and have always been just a bit uncomfortable around the tiny ones. Give me a big dog any day. These guys, however, turned out to be pretty friendly. I loved how the door could open over their heads and they'd never even have to move.

Adelaide LUBS her "daddy" and so do I.

Mike is a wonderful father for all of our kids -- his, mine, and the fuzzy little characters that we can claim as "ours." Happy Fathers Day to all the men who help shape the generations that will follow.

Addie's World

Adelaide is on duty. She's in charge of security -- or at least she thinks she is.

From her vantage point she can monitor stair traffic, patrol the yard and most doors, and keep an eye on her food bowl as well as any tasty morsels that fall on the kitchen floor. She's also in charge of floor licking.

She could even watch television if we would just turn it on for her. Having no thumbs is a real handicap.

In any case, nobody is going to come or go without her knowing about it.

"Please, put down that camera and feed me. Is that asking too much?"

The world really does look different from our pets' perspective. Hmmm . . . as long as I'm down here, what else can I shoot?

Just realized something . . . Perhaps this was inspired somehow by Laura's very cute doggie series. Hope you don't mind, Laura.
